SUMMARY:Nordic Chambers’ Event: Navigating a World Where Rules No Longer Bind
DESCRIPTION:What smaller democracies can do when the international order is under pressure\nJoin us and the Nordic Chambers on June 4th for an insightful keynote speech by Beatrice Fihn – Nobel Laureate, Director of the Lex International Fund, and Senior Fellow at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).\nInternational law and the rules-based world order are under intense pressure. As major powers increasingly disregard the norms and legal frameworks that have underpinned global stability for decades, the consequences fall disproportionately on smaller nations — including the Nordic countries and Switzerland.\nSpeaker\nBeatrice Fihn\nDirector, Lex International Fund | Senior Fellow, UNIDIR\n\nBeatrice Fihn is the Director of the Lex International Fund, a philanthropic fund focused on supporting and developing international law, and a Senior Fellow at the United Nations Institute for Disarmament Research (UNIDIR).\nShe is widely recognised as a leading expert on international law, weapons governance, and civil society mobilisation, with deep expertise spanning multilateral diplomacy, global governance, and cross-border policy coordination.\nAs former Executive Director of the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons (ICAN) — the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize-winning coalition — Beatrice accepted the Nobel Peace Prize and delivered the Nobel Lecture in Oslo on behalf of the campaign.\nHer foundation’s December 2024 report examines how successfully international law and multilateralism have functioned historically in matters of war and peace, what we stand to lose if the current system fails, and the urgent steps required to preserve it.\nProgramme\n18:00 – 18:30 | Registration & Welcome Reception\n18:30 – 19:30 | Moderated Discussion with Beatrice Fihn\n19:30 – 21:00 | Networking\nSave the date!\nTickets for this event will be released shortly\nKindly hosted by\nOrganised by\nIn collaboration with\nTerms & Conditions\nFor event registrations our general policy is that refunds will only be issued for cancellations occurring 3 days or more prior to the event start date. In case of no-show for events free of charge, the SSCC will charge a no-show fee of CHF 50.\nAny variation from the above stated policy must be clearly indicated at the time the event registration occurs, and the policy above shall be deemed applicable in the absence of any other notification.\n\n
