SUMMARY:Small Proteins, Big Potential: New Approaches to Dementia & Cancer – Zurich
DESCRIPTION:Save the date! Registration will open shortly!\nHow can tiny engineered proteins help medicines reach the brain, identify tumours and act precisely where they are needed most?\nIn partnership with Scandinavian Forum Switzerland, we’re inviting you to an evening at ETH Zürich exploring how protein engineering is creating new opportunities for the diagnosis and treatment of some of today’s most challenging diseases.\nProfessors Stefan Ståhl and John Löfblom from KTH Royal Institute of Technology will present their research on affibodies – small, highly stable engineered proteins that are approximately 4% of the size of monoclonal antibodies. Their compact structure enables excellent tissue penetration and precise targeting.\nThe lecture will explore affibody-based research in Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease and frontotemporal dementia, including technologies designed to improve transport across the blood–brain barrier. It will also examine applications in cancer imaging and targeted treatment, where affibodies can guide radioisotopes or cytotoxic agents directly to tumour cells while potentially limiting effects on healthy tissue.\nThe evening will be hosted at ETH Zürich by Prof. Jörg Scheuermann and Prof. Dario Neri, who will provide a short introduction to ligand discovery and ligand-based drug delivery. The scientific programme will conclude with an open discussion, followed by a networking apéritif.\nIntoduction Speakers\nProf. Dr. Dario Neri\nLecturer at the Department of Chemistry and Applied Biosciences, EHT Zurich \nProf. Dr. Jörg Scheuermann\nPrivatdozent am Departement Chemie und Angewandte Biowissenschaften, ETH\nSpeakers\nStefan Ståhl\nProfessor Molecular Biotechnology at KTH\n\nJohn Löfblom\nAssociate Professor, Protein Technology at KTH \nProgramme\n18:00–18:10 Welcome by SSCC & Scandinavian Forum Switzerland\n18:10–18:20 Introduction to ETH activities by Jörg Scheuermann and Dario Neri\n18:20–18:25 Introduction and laudatio of the guest lecturers Dario Neri\n18:25–19:10 Guest lecture: affibody-based approaches to dementia and cancer Stefan Ståhl and John Löfblom\n19:10–20:00 Discussion and Q&A\n20:00-21:00 Networking Apéro\nFees\nSSCC members: CHF TBD\nNon-Members: CHF TBD\n\nIn collaboration with\nTerms & Conditions\nFor event registrations our general policy is that refunds will only be issued for cancellations occurring 3 days or more prior to the event start date.
