International trade and cross-border payments have been turned upside down by the pandemic. Almost two years after the first virus outbreak, the issue continues to dominate everyday life, policy making and the financial markets. New corona variants and existing government measures to combat the spread prevent a full return to normality. This is also reflected in the persistently high freight costs, supply chain bottlenecks and long delivery times, which will continue to shape the global picture for a while. Companies will have to adjust to high prices, market volatility and wage debates in 2022.
