In 2020 and 2021, we celebrate 100 years of Swiss official presence in Sweden. There are both historic and pandemic reasons for extending the anniversary celebrations over two years.
Many historical events have precise dates. This holds true for royal weddings, moon landings and battles. Historical developments, on the other hand, often take years or even decades to unfold. As historian Jakob Tanner notes in these pages, both Sweden’s and Switzerland’s democracy and social security systems were many years in the making. The establishment of a Swiss diplomatic presence in Sweden may appear less complex than these processes. It still took some years.
